just submitted my bibliography! checked several websites and a class handout in regards to proper APA citing...so i hope its all correct!
learned some interesting things about internet censorship in Saudi Arabia! - can't believe the public and universities had no access until 1999! i can't imagine that!

almost complete! woohoo!

i think i have everything pretty much squared away! just going to do one more run through of my biblio to make sure my citing is correct - my academic writing teacher gave me some photocopies of some pages out of a great writers manual that has really clear, detailed examples of APA formatting.
My book resource researching did end up being a little more difficult than i anticipated - i still think amazon is a great resource for this though. In both of my books i was able to view table of contents and most of the pages - the internet censoring pages were all available but not all of the info pertaining to women and women's rights. interesting! sort of wonder if this occured just by chance or a little censorship is going on from publishers/amazon folk - whoever controls what exactly you can see from "look inside the book"!

research is going fine but i can say a few things about using the sakai assignment posting field:
1. you can not copy and paste! this is sooo annoying because, as you know, many of my sources are online references that require we addresses somewhere in the citation. if you could just copy and paste these addresses it would be a time saver!
2. be careful about your saves! i wrote two and a half article citations/summaries without saving and then - blip - i got shot out of the posting field. when i returned my last entries were not saved. now i am saving excessively and things are moving along fine!

so... finding .gov sites doesn't seem to be as easy as finding .org sites dealing with internet censorship. i must admit my .org sites are not particularly aimed at Saudi Arabia. They are more focused on either how to access censorship software (interesting!), the wrongs of internet censorship in general, or just what internet censorship is.
any suggestions on narrowing the scope or is this alright? i do talk in biblio about my perception of how these .orgs support/reject the type of censorship going on in SA.

more research to find sources - but no summaries yet!

so i have done a little searching on worldCat and google scholar. worldCat is cool, but i think more valuable probably if you know the title or authors name of what you are looking for. i did find some books on my topic - or at leastclose to my topic - and saved them to a list. i wish i could look directly into the books or get an abstract from worldcat, but i will have to use my list as reference and look up what i found on amazon - not to bad but of course, less steps always seems better ;)
google scholar seems pretty good - i just need to keep fine tuning my "search" skills

and...once you have an account with NYT online you can save articles into a file so i dont even have to fill up my inbox with articles, i can store them right in my NYT account! wow! the things i learn with a little patience!
also, you can drag the 'save it file' icon from NYT into your tool bar and keep bookmarked articles from anywhere on the web!

great resource

I love the New York times online! you can sign into a free account and search their seemingly endless archive for articles on pretty much any subject. for our assignment i have found several - like 4 or 5 - articles that look really great and interesting! i dont have time now to read the whole article - and i want to - so i just emailed them to myself :) which will also give me all the relevant bibliographic info i need for the assignment

first social justice research post

alright, my research for this project will revolve around human rights in Saudi Arabia. I would like to find out how internet censorship affects women's rights to free speech, education and information gathering. I was able to find a few articles related to this topic by entering the reseach button in Sakai, continuing into academic search complete and starting an advanced search. search terms that i used included: internet censorship, saudi arabia, women, rights. at first this search was too specific and i ended up finding articles by only plugging in the first two search terms. i plan to go back in and search terms such as freedom of information, free speech and filtering of information.
